This condensate trap ensures the condensate water created within the boiler exits the boiler to the outside drains. If this Vaillant Siphon 180984 as it is sometimes called becomes full of water the boiler will switch off automatically otherwise condensate water would back up into the boiler causing possible problems with water damage.
